Rutile Mineral Chemistry and Zr-in-Rutile Thermometry in Provenance Study of Albian (Uppermost Lower Cretaceous) Terrigenous Quartz Sands and Sandstones in Southern Extra-Carpathian Poland

The geochemistry of detrital rutile grains, which are extremely resistant to weathering, was used in a provenance study the transgressive Albian quartz sands southern part extra-Carpathian Poland. Rutile grains were sampled from eight outcrops and four boreholes located on Miechów, Szydłowiec, Puławy Segments. crystallization temperatures calculated using Zr-in-rutile geothermometer, allowed for division area into three parts: western, central, eastern. western group samples, Miechów Segment, is characterized by polymodal distribution (700–800 °C; 550–600 °C, c. 900 °C) with significant predominance high-temperature forms, clear prevalence metapelitic over metamafic rutile. eastern corresponding Lublin Area, monomodal their peak at °C. contents comparable. central samples bimodal (550–600 °C 850–950 most likely represents mixing zone, visible influence and, lesser extent, group. probable source groups seems be granulite eclogite facies rocks Bohemian Massif. rutiles amphibolites low temperature rocks, probably derived Baltic Shield.
